My DIY Tips In Recycling Rubber Bands From Rainbow Looms

~ Posted on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 5:13 AM ~

I am not a fan of rainbow looms. We received some last year from our 1st kiddo's kindy friends as party packs. I kept them aside until I could decide what to do with them. FYI, rainbow Loom is a plastic tool used to weave colorful rubber and plastic bands into bracelets and charms. End of last year, I finally got an idea what to do with the colorful rubber bands. I threw away the plastic tools but kept the rubber bands and recycle them.

With 2 young girls in our family, I used the rubber bands to tie their slowly but surely growing hair. They look so cute in tiny little pigtails and braids. And with so many colors to choose from, I won't ever run out of ideas how to mix and match the rubber bands with our girls' clothings. The bands are sturdy and strong and quite lasting with gentle use.

What a great way to recyle the bands instead of buying them from those beauty outlets at a much much more expensive rates! I'm glad I kept the rubber bands and recycling them this way.

DIY Trick For My Preschooler To Write In The Lines

~ Posted on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at 12:55 AM ~

Few days ago, I printed some free handwriting practise worksheet template which I found online and started letting our girl write on it.

Picture on left - when you left her on her own to write her name...
Picture on right - when I stayed right next to her and kept on reminding her to stay within the 2 lines as she writes her name...

It was so frustrating to me to see her trying to grasp the concept of writing in between the 2 lines. So, that day, I had to crack my brain and think of how to get our kiddos to learn and remember better. And today I'm sharing my personal DIY trick in getting our 4 year old girl to write in between the lines. I used the empty side of a postcard and made 2 boxes. One square box and one slim rectangular box like below. Then I use a loytape to tape all around the edge of the boxes.

I then let our girl used it. Works so much better and easier! I love it!

Of course there are so many other ways online if you googled for it, but the above is my personal DIY trick which is working for now. I will keep my options open for other tricks as well if this trick stop working hahahaha but until then, I am loving what I'm seeing!

Breadmaker Recipe - Italian Breadsticks

~ Posted on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 5:56 AM ~

It's been a long time since I shared any recipe that uses breadmaker. For this post, I am sharing another recipe I tried and tested, Italian Breadsticks.

Ingredients:
* 200ml room temp water
* 3 tbsp of olive oil (with extra for brushing later)
* 3 cups of bread flour
* 1.5 tsp of salt
* 1.5 tsp dried yeast
* optional for coating - poppy seed, chia seed, sea salt

Italian Breadsticks

Methods:
* The key is to put in the liquid ingredients, followed by semi liquid and finally the dry ingredients. So add water follow by oil, flour, salt and finally yeast.
* Set the program to "Dough" function.
*  The bread maker will complete the task in 1.5 hours.
* Lightly oil 2 baking sheets and preheat oven to 200°C
* Once the dough is ready in 1.5 hours, take out the dough and place it on a lightly floured surface and punch down the dough. Roll into a rectangle and cut into long strips. Sizewise and lengthwise is really up to you to roll and flatten up.

* You may roll in the poppy seeds or chia seeds or sea salt if you like. Space well apart each sticks on the baking sheet. Lightly brush with olive oil and cover with clear film (plastic wrap) and leave in a wam place for 10-15 minutes.
* Bake for 10-15 minutes or until golden, turning each sticks once. Transfer to wire rack to cool.

Outcome:

Our kiddos love this! I actually think the breadsticks tasted like pizza dough, you know the crust part?

Awesome, I will try this again to make pizza base hehehe...

This recipe is definitely for keeps!
