My Dream Holiday...

~ Posted on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 9:35 PM ~

As a SAHM, one of the things I look forward to is taking a short break from home, to be away with my family on a holiday. You have no idea how hectic and tiring it is being stuck at home all day, 24 hours, 7 days a week and 365 days a year! To be able to get away from the house even just for a few days is a blessing really!

Currently, I would check with my husband's work schedule (he has his own IT business) and then plan for our family holidays months in advance, usually a 3 days 2 nights trip and I would book for a hotel stay which is family-friendly and near to the places of interests particularly beach area and with lots of good places with delicious food to eat!

Our most recent family trip during the Mother's Day celebration is more like one of those Hotel breaks, where again was planned few months in advance. But this time it is much more relaxed and other than venturing out for food, we practically spend most of the time in our hotel and at the beach.

I feel the entire trip we had is more of a relaxed manner as we just focus on chilling and spending time enjoying the views and hotel facilities. Despite the short trip, I definitely enjoyed the holiday and look forward for more to come!

Of course, given the chance and in time (surely, need to think positive!), I would like to take a longer break and perhaps go for overseas holiday. I chanced upon this website with details on City breaks in the UK which seems very interesting! I have some friends staying in UK and I would like to make UK one of the places to visit in future (apart from Hong Kong, Sweden and Italy or Spain perhaps?)

Back to UK, I have a friend who stays in London and I've not been hearing from him for a long long time. We used to joke about us going there to travel and staying at his place and he even offered to bring us around for sightseeing. Sigh... how I wish that day will come soon! I do miss getting news from him!

With air travel getting more affordable nowadays, I think it will be possible for this plan to materialise one day, provided my kids are older and easier to manage then.

What about you? Do you have any favorite places that you travel to?

Unmetered Dedicated Server

~ Posted on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at 1:16 AM ~

Before I became a SAHM (yes, I used to have a job long long ago!), I used to work in the IT field.

The term Unmetered Dedicated Server reminded me on one of the first projects that I can recall happening in my previous company which was migration of the company's system from a shared server (managed by the group IT) to a dedicated server. This migration primarily affects the IT and Finance systems and will definitely benefit the company in the long run.

To begin with, having the entire company system on its own dedicated server means the company now has primary control of its own usage and settings. Prior to that, the company's system is under the group IT management, which means, it takes longer time to respond to issues and changes and that will also impact decision making process as everything had to go through the group IT.

Now that the system is under an unmetered dedicated server, it means the company is free to fully utilize the bandwidth all by itself as it is no longer sharing with other subsidiaries and hence will not be bog down by other resources compared to previously having to share with other subsidiaries which are parked under the group IT management.

I am glad my previous company made the decision to move itself out from the group IT shared server as we all noticed the significant improvement towards the system and processes soon after that.

Earning Side Income Doing Courier Jobs?

~ Posted on Monday, May 21, 2012 at 3:15 PM ~

As a SAHM, I often heard from my friends who joke about using their vehicles to earn money as well while they are driving around, going from one place to another. There's also the idea being mentioned amongst friends and ex-colleagues about making use of our own car to fetch other children in the same neighbourhood as well since we have to drive them to school and places anyway.

Other than chauffeuring children around, do you know that we can also earn some side income by doing courier jobs such as delivering/picking up parcels, documents, equipments, everything! Of course the bigger the vehicle you have, the more items you can allow to deliver or ship along!

I came across this website that offers services to all parties: the carriers, the brokers and the shippers. The amazing thing with this company is it allows you as the carrier to search and connect to both customer and brokered loads, then negotiate and manage the brokers and shippers online and also get payment fast.

Now isn't that amazing to be able to fully utilise your vehicle to earn money since you are going to use it anyway?

If only they implement this in my country. Now imagine one day when my kids are ready to go to school and I have to chauffeur them around, why not do so and earn some side income as well right? Awesome...!

What are your thoughts about this concept?
