This is my 3rd VeggieTales DVD review after "God Loves You Very Much" and "If I Sang a Silly Song". We are a big fan of VeggieTales after the first 2 DVDs (and I also bought another DVD from our church bookstore as well, so yeah, we are a fan!) Anyway, here is my review:

I'm a full-time mummy

DVD synopsis:

"The Penniless Princess—God’s Little Girl is the heart-warming story based on the children’s book A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The story, featuring plenty of engaging and fun music fit for families, including the all-new Silly Song “Best Friends Forever” and the featured song “No Matter What,” helps to teach an important lesson about knowing your own true worth and trusting God, no matter what happens in life. Other bonus feature include a special tour of London with the popular French Peas characters, a hilarious look at the history of the Teddy Bear, a discussion guide for parents, and behind-the-scenes clips.

Sweet Sarah Crew has everything a little girl could want – a loving family, lots of friends and a closet full of frilly dresses! But when life takes a turn and Sarah goes from riches to rags, will she realize that her true worth lies not in what she has, but what she has in her heart? Find out in this inspiring new story from VeggieTales that reminds kids who they are in God’s eyes."

Firstly I must note down that it is a very clever idea to insert a penny on the PR letter that I got along with the DVD and the book! This is the first US penny I ever owned! *embarrassed and yet proud of it!*

Back to my review, I received a copy of the DVD and also the "365 Daystarter Devos for Girls" book which I am very delighted to get as I was only expecting the DVD. Heck, even getting that penny is surprising enough for me, so yes, again, I am thrilled to get the DVD and the book!

Ben scooted off the moment I browsed through the book, maybe it's all full of words which he doesn't seem to understand now. I hope it's not the pinkish color that makes him lose his interest. But rest assured, I am definitely keeping this book and will revisit it when my Alyson is old enough for this book! A quick note about the book: "Daystarter devos for girls help parents begin every morning with the wit of VeggieTales and wisdom from the Word of God! Includes 365 daily thoughts, a prayer, and a verse for kids to start their day out right!"

As for the DVD, I like the lesson to be learned, that it doesn't matter what you have, the most important is what's in your heart! I use the opportunities to teach my boy the importance of sharing, to be kind and helpful to others. The songs are catchy and cute as well and yes, we danced along to it too!

My 3 year old boy sat glued in front of my laptop throughout the whole DVD. Of course I was right next to him while he watched the DVD and I explained to him in simpler terms that he could understand the storyline of the DVD and what is happening.

There are some breathtaking scenes from the DVD! Love them!

A fun, entertaining and inspiring DVD that is a must to have!

Food Review & Giveaway - Tepung Magik

~ Posted on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at 12:00 PM ~

Ok, I was going back to and fro whether I should put this post under product review or food review, and ended up with the later one as it was used in food preparation, so yeah, here is my review of the:

TEPUNG MAGIK!

In direct translation from Malay language to English, it means magic flour.

What's so magical about it? Read on my review below will ya?

I'm a full-time mummy

This flour is actually fried mushroom powder but it is also a multipurpose flour as it can be used for other types of foods as well. I'm translating the info below from the product page.

"Fried mushroom powder is the title of the magic powder because the crispness remains for hours. Unlike ordinary flour in the market, it will go stale quickly after frying. The advantages of this flour are:
* Quick & easy to prepare
* Not Oily
* No need to use eggs
* Do not need to use too much flour
* Do not need to use too much oil
* Fried foods does not go soggy fast"

The moment I received the flour, I quickly got to thinking what can I used it with. Now, I am not a cook, the only time I cook is for my kids, the rest are mainly handled by my MIL and my hubby occassionally. So, I tried the flour with 2 very adhoc recipes of mine:

#1 : POPCORN CHICKEN

I got the idea of making this while I was testing another product I got for my review (the Scotch™ Premium Kitchen Scissors) As I cut and cut the chicken meat smaller and smaller, I thought, "Hey! This looks so cute and small, kinda like the KFC popcorn chicken! Hmmmm... "

Picture below showing the preparation, how I marinate the chicken meat with the Tepung Magik and then frying the chicken bits.

And this is the result of the chicken bits fried - yumyumyumsssss! I did not prepared a lot as it was my first attempt and I thought I should minimise any kitchen disasters for my 1st attempt, so I only made a small bowl of chicken popovers, total about 20 small bits of chicken I can say...

FYI, my MIL had 1 piece, I had 2 pieces, my hubby whom I thought had 1 piece (I gave him 1 to try) and then he sneaked behind me and took 3-4 pieces more (I let it cool down in kitchen as my 3 year old boy was having his nap).

And ladies and gentlemen, the rest of the chicken popovers went to this handsome cheeky man below... yup, ALL of the chicken bits that I prepared and fried with patience and love... And if my boy can sit still and whack all the food, it really means it is good stuff!

#2 : FRIED DORY FISH NUGGETS

Hey, since I'm on the roll, the next day I decided to make fried dory fish nuggets. Told my MIL that I planned to cook for dinner that night and defrost a slice of dory fish from the freezer hours earlier. Again, I cut the dory fish into small bite sizes and marinated them in the Tepung Magik.

This is the result of the fried dory fish - again yumyumyumsssss! I felt like Gordon Ramsey, whipping up yummylicious foods for everyone hahahaha!

In summary, this is a very promising product which I would not mind using again. It has a herb type of smell and for Malay readers of my blog, do note that this flour is labelled 'Halal' so, no worries ya! Again, there are many other foods you can try on, not just chicken and fish, you can fry mushroom, potatoes, long beans, tofu, much much more! I'm happy to be given the opportunity to try this out!

~ Posted on Friday, July 20, 2012 at 12:00 PM ~

** Article first published as Book Review: The Wonders of Mother's Milk by Mishawn Purnell-O'Neal on Blogcritics.

I received an email pitch last month from the author of this book asking whether I am interested in reviewing her book which has recently been made available in digital formats (iBookstore and Kindle). In case you are new to my blog, I just want to let you know that I am very very passionate about anything related to breastfeeding. As a mother of 2 kids, I am still breastfeeding my 41 months old boy and 11 months old girl. So, yes, anything related to breastfeeding, I am in! I'm a full-time mummy

I love this book! The illustrations are easy to the eye, this book is not too long winded nor too short to make a statement!

I love that the paragraphs rhymes and is easy to read while still being able to deliver the points in breastfeeding, how it benefits our little ones, how different mothers breastfeed and nourish their child and how children from different ages can still enjoys the benefits of breastfeeding.

I just love the last page on this book where it says

"So when you see a mother giving her baby her milk,
don’t stare, instead give her a smile. And know that
she’s is giving the best gift that she can give to her
growing child."

This book deserves more publicity and need to be made aware of its existence! As a person who is passionate about breastfeeding matters, I hope that one day, breastfeeding will be seen as a normal thing and I hope this book will be able to impact and affect the lives of whomever lucky enough to read it!
