iPad App Review - Five Little Monkeys Play Hide and Seek

~ Posted on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 7:34 AM ~

We have a couple of Five Little Monkeys apps on my iPad and the latest one that my almost 4 years old boy still loves to read and listen to is of course the "Five Little Monkeys Collection #1" app. So when I received an email pitch on this app, I immediately requested to review it. Without further ado, here goes my feedback...

Join the Five Little Monkeys as they find the perfect hiding place where even their babysitter can't find them!"

* It is engaging and interactive and I love that we can also touch the objects in each page on the screen and the words pop out to tell you what it is!

* I like the storyline where it tells how the Lulu the babysitter plays hide and seek with the 5 little monkeys before their bedtime and was pleasantly surprised at the cute and surprise ending of the story.

* I have just started teaching my boy counting from 11 to 20 about 2 weeks ago and am particularly enjoying this page below where Lulu counted from 1 to 24:

* I used the opportunity in this story app to reinforce the number counting (1 to 20 for now) to my 4 years old boy and also reminded him that when it is time to sleep, we must be serious and stick to bedtime and not be playful anymore.

iPad App Review - Just Going to the Dentist

~ Posted on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 8:13 AM ~

I mentioned before that we are big fans of "Little Critter" apps and the last app we reviewed are the "Little Critter Collection #1", "Just a Mess" and "Just Go to Bed". So the moment I saw the words "Little Critter" in the latest Oceanhouse Media's press release in my email inbox, of course I immediately request for the promo code to review this app. Anyway, my review as below...

* It is engaging and interactive and I love that we can also touch the objects in each page on the screen and the words pop out to tell you what it is!

* I like the storyline where it tells how the Little Critter go for his first ever dental check up and what he experienced during the visit.

* There are some pages which got Ben's attention and reactions such as the page where Little Critter said the dentist office looks like a spaceship:

* I used the opportunity in this story app to explain to my almost 4 years old boy that there is nothing to be feared of in the dentist office.

* I do however feel the page where the nurse cleaned Little Critters teeth before the dentist came in is not relevant to us as so far, I have not encountered similar treatment in the dentist clinics in Malaysia.

iPad App Review - Stone Soup

~ Posted on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 1:14 PM ~

I just mentioned few days ago that I don't often received pitch email asking me to review iPad apps with the promo code given along as well and that when I do get emails like this, I feel obligated to redeem it and try it out and then share my feedback. And then I got this email asking me to review this app. I checked out the app in details as 'Stone Soup' sounds weird, I mean, stone soup?! Really?! Without further ado, here goes my feedback...

"One night, three rabbits arrived at a small village. They hoped that they could stay in the village for one night, but when they arrived in the village, they found that all of the windows were shut, and all of the lights were turned off. They thought that all of the people in the village were selfish and refused to accept others and could not be happy. Therefore, the three rabbits decided to cook stone soup in order to attract the attention of the villagers, who then joined the cooking voluntarily. With the proceeding of the plot, the readers can join the animal characters in the story and learn to be generous and ready to help others in order to have joy and happiness. The Stone Soup is not only inspiring to children but also worth reading and reflection by every adult. Caring about others can make you happy and your life will be more beautiful if you treat it with sincerity and honesty. "

* The animation on this story app is fantastic and cute!

* I love that we can also touch certain objects on the screen and I spent quite some time playing with this particular page below, was just amazed at the sun rising and setting and the shadows cast on the scenery is just amazing!

* I like the storyline where it tells how 3 rabbits got the villagers who are selfish and not friendly to turn the opposites at the end by cooking up a unique stone soup.

* One thing that got me annoyed in this story app is the loud music background. I think it will be much much better if the background music is lowered down quite a bit as it currently overshadows the narrator's voice.

* I took the opportunity in this app to teach my almost 4 years old boy how important it is to share what we have and to make friends.
