Product Review - Alternative ABCs

~ Posted on Friday, July 2, 2010 at 4:23 AM ~

The product I'll be reviewing this time is:

Yeap! A board book by the title of “Alternative ABCs”!  I  have  been  given  this wonderful opportunity to review this board book through the Business2Blogger program and the contact person, Ms. Sara DeGonia is a wonderful person to work with! She has been providing me updates and help all the way from the point I submit my request for the book review until the book was delivered safe to my hand half way across the globe!

(Excerpts from the website):
This “
Alternative ABCs” board book features original, colorful, and graphic illustrations and typography by Southern California based designers Eric Ruffing and Dave Parmley of 13THFLOOR.

Aesthetically borrowing from street, surf, skate, and music subcultures, the custom design and typography beautifully spell out this unique alphabet. From Calligraffiti to Pin-Striping, and from Goth to Punk, this little book crosses genres and is sure to create a buzz.  Further details of the board book:

* ISBN: 9781934429396, Dimension: 6 x 6 inches and number of pages: 56 pages

The moment I read about the opportunity to review this book (without even seeing the pictures of it!) I was hooked!  I mean, how often you get to see something other than the normal A for Apple, B for Ball, C for Cat type of board books?!! I’m not sure about you but this is the first time I read about this concept! Just look at the pictures of Ben below enjoying the book when it arrives!

The book also instils a sense of responsibility in us, as you can see, R is for Reduce, Reuse and Recycle! How uber cool is that?!

Ben flipping to the next alphabet for more!

Picture above of Ben, obviously intrigued with the vibrant colors used!

What I like about this board book?

* A different concept towards getting your child to learn alphabets

* Vibrant colors used for each alphabet which attracts and caught your attention

* Creative illustrations used where some of them actually helps instil preservations and love towards environment and our planet earth!

* The thickness of each page is just right (flimsy and thin books always get chewed by Ben and doesn’t last more than 1 week)

* The dimension of the board book is also just nice, not too big that I get tired holding them for Ben or too big for Ben to carry around.

Winner for Artiwood Letters Giveaway

~ Posted on Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 1:18 AM ~

Yes! My first giveaway had finally come to an end.

In case you have no idea what I'm talking about, I had previously posted a giveaway in my old Blogger blog and had mentioned that I will draw out a winner at the end of June, so here goes a bit of the info on how I selected the lucky winner!

#1 - Since I created my entry form using Google Documents, I had to of course download out the document into Excel

#2 - Firstly I make sure all the entries are accounted for. Meaning, if I said there will be 3 entries for those "Follower prior to 1st June 2010" I will ensure that there are 3 counts for the participant. In total, there are 136 entries for this giveaway.

#3 - Once I have the whole list, I have to drill down to each participant and checked the answer for the question asked, which is "What is the name of the animal used in the letter "N" OR "X" in their animal alphabet letters (choose either one)." Those who answered this question incorrectly will be disqualified from the giveaway. Those that answer correctly will stay in the list.

#4 - Once I cleared away the incorrect entries, I proceeded to Random.org and key in my minimum and maximum entry, which is 1 to 75. Yes, from a total of 136 entries, only 75 made it to the final list to be drawn. So, I clicked the "Generate" button and this is what I get:

Entry number 61 goes to: kendylann3 who entered the giveaway at 10/6/2010  2:57:11 AM

Congratulations! I will be contacting you shortly to get your further details and the design you'd like for your winning entry! You have 48 hours to respond to my email before I pick another winner!

As for the rest who participated in the giveaway, thank you for entering, better luck next time, OK? As for the rest of you who totally missed this giveaway, you can read back on my product review which was posted in my old Blogger blog at this link (http://imafulltimemummy.blogspot.com/2010/05/review-artiwood-letters.html). Totally awesome products!

And, btw, I had previously consider showing the screen capture of the winning entry but then I decided not to as it will also show the answer for the question asked and I've seen many Artiwood Letters giveaway across a lot of blogs so I guessed it's better I keep the answer a secret to be fair to other blogs who are hosting  similar giveaway like mine. Till then, stay happy and looking forward to hosting more giveaways in my blog soon!
