Toddler Meals (June 01 - 05)

~ Posted on Monday, June 6, 2011 at 8:51 AM ~

I really need to buckle up and be more creative with Ben's meal planning. Ever since I got pregnant, I realised I've been slacking off and after discussions with hubby, we decided to work together to plan proper meals for Ben - as in sneaking in more veggies into his meals and making sure he's eating more variety of foods compared to his usual oats and noodle stuff.

I have yet to go for our next grocery shop, so for now, I have to make do with what we have on hand. I'm writing this post out to remind myself not to ever slack off with Ben's meals and to be serious with what goes into him as well.

I will try to snap pictures whenever I can (you might noticed pictures of tea time and dinner missing for these few days whooppsss..) of what I'm feeding him from this month onwards so that I can have a daily reminder of this. And also, you may noticed there's no veggies in Ben's meals too.. sigh.. my fault, my fault... when Ben started solids at 6 months old, I am all about home made puree of fruits and veggies and all... but after he turned 1 year old, I have not been disciplined enough to keep it up. I am not a veggie person and I think that's why Ben's meals nowadays doesn't have veggies in it too.

So with this toddler meals planning and documenting, I want to tell and remind myself to be disciplined and consistent in including veggies as well as providing nutritious foor for Ben from now on. So, hopefully after our grocery shopping you will be able to see more meal pictures with veggies in it.

Toddler Meals

I am continuosly looking for more choices (if possible easy and fast to make or those I can prepare the night before) as I need to start planning and timing all this before Spicy Baby comes along in September. I need to consider that maybe during the 1st month after delivery that I am still exhausted (recuperating from labor and also settling down with Spicy Baby) and other people (such as hubby and my MIL) will need to take over my roles in feeding Ben during that time.

So I hope to be able to post up pictures of Ben's meals as we go along from this month onwards to serve as a guide and reminder.

Thank you for reading and if you have any websites on toddler's recipe, do share it with me!

Hi Jenny,

Sometimes, I had hard time thinking what I should prepare for Iggy during the weekends.. I really salute to you and all the SAHM.

Btw, Iggy likes to eat a lot .. I mean A LOT.  He will be munching all the time if I let him. So for healthier choice, I gave him grape/cherry tomatoes, steam potatoes cut into cube without any dressing, steam asparagus lightly toss with olive oil and salt, etc.. Luckily for me, he likes his veggies.. Oh actually, he likes everything that's edible .. :p

Hi Pauline!

No la... SAHM doesn't mean they are doing everything perfect! Just look at me and what I've been feeding Ben now! I've been really slacking alot since I got pregnant (OK, that's not an excuse!) and as much as it embarrasses me to post this up, I had to so that I get reminded when I check my blog and I have motivation to keep it up and really warn myself not to be like this already!

There are working mums I know who prepare foods by batches or during night time or weekend and bring those food over to the nanny place to be fed to their child.

I think the main key is not whether you are SAHM or working mums, it's more towards what are we feeding to our child and I think as a SAHM myself, I have to be more strict (to myself especially) since I have control and more time (compared to working mums) to decide and plan on my child's meals.

Glad to hear your boy likes to eat all those vege. When Ben started with his solids at 6 mths, he whacks everything we gave him too, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, avocadoes, potatoes, carrots, spinach, everything but he's more into crunchier food nowadays..

I have a great website to recommend: weelicious.com; I get a lot of ideas from there. Also I like to make a big bunch of pancakes and freeze them in batches. Easy healthy breakfast for your toddler when you don't have the time. It gets harder when the 2nd one comes along. Those are great meal ideas you have there.

Jenny @ I'm a full-time mummy

Hi Germaine!
Yes, I found weelicious 2 days ago too! Other than that, I have http://www.tasteofhome.com which I'm looking thru now. There are lots of great sites (some on my bookmarks) but a lot of them required quite some time to prepare. I'm trying to get those quick and easy meals to prepare Tong

But thanks for the link!

Aries

A very creative mommy. Love the way you hide those vege, my sons hate vege too when they were younger and everything were chopped finely so that he does not know it was vege. Keh keh keh, all those mommy tricks. Don't worry, this is nor for ever, he will eat his vege soon.

Miki

susah betul ur meals... i just use slow cooker everything in one.

(2) porridge + ikan bilis + meat + vege

aurie

Hi Jenny!!  Great tips!  I am more a frut & veggie person, so my girls were introduced early - but now Sophie will not eat ANY veggie, so mno worries!! Smile

Jenny @ I'm a full-time mummy

Hi Aries!
Sigh, thanks to me slacking off lately... else Ben might be able to keep up with his veggies. I have to be more discipline to ensure this veggies thing goes into him more often! Tong I don't want him to not eat veggies like me...

Hey Miki!
Share tips please! I have a slow cooker at home, not used yet. Please please please!

Hey Aurie!
Ben was also introduced to veggies and fruits when he started his solids at 6 mths. Just that I've been slacking off and getting lazy nowadays, so I need to keep this up already!

Catheryn @ Pinkbibs

Ben's meals looks very nice and colorful! But yes, lack of greens.  Try to incorporate it into his meals gradually.

Isabelle craves for broccoli almost all the time. I don't know why, maybe I started her on solids with broccoli.  And one of her favourite is cheese broccoli omelette.  Yummy!

Will share with you when I found the recipe links.

Jenny @ I'm a full-time mummy

Hey Catheryn!
Yes! Lazy mummy's fault! Frown Ben used to whack lots of veggies and fruits back during his solids days! Have to make sure to repeat this now!! Thanks for sharing !

Ha? got tips wan meh? i just dump everything in.. "yat wok sook" (1 pot cook all)

(1) rice wash and dump in
(2) watever-meat in big chunk (normally is pork or chicken)-later can shred or can separate it out if he doesn't like.
(3)vege chop fine usually is carrot/celery (can force him to eat vege)
or sometimes big leafty vege like cabbage
+ potatoes cubes + sweet corn + tomato (own imagination)
(4) for the taste i'll add scallop or anchovies
all dump in with water and wait for 1 or 2 hrs. can ignore it Tong no need to worry about over cook. sounds lazy enuf rite? i add in salt b4 eating.

so i think/guess with this i can hv all the vitamins and mineral in the porridge if he choose not to weat the vege or meat.

I struggle with every mealtime it seems! Frustrating!!

Jenny @ I'm a full-time mummy

Hi there Mrs. T!
Oh wow... I have that problem too and it's really frustrating to see our food goes untouched (or eaten just a few bites) after all the hardwork we put into making it! Frown

Thanks for dropping by and commenting! Have a lovely day!

Kelly @ Slow Cooker Success

Great idea! As a Miki suggested try a slow cooker. I use mine all the time to make healthy meals for my family. The best part is they can save you a lot of time.
