Easy to Remember Pancakes

~ Posted on Monday, November 21, 2011 at 8:08 AM ~

It has been quite a while since I posted stuff related to baking or cooking. As I was up wayyyyy early in the morning (like 6am) on Saturday, I decided to browse through my kids' recipes app on my iPad and found this super easy to remember pancakes recipe! One that I can whip up from scratch without relying on premix! Anyway, without further ado, here goes:

EASY TO REMEMBER PANCAKES

PREPARATION TIME: LESS THAN 20 MINUTES

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

* 1 cup flour
* 1 tablespoon sugar
* 1 tablespoon baking powder
* 1 teaspoon salt (if any at all)
(I should have omitted this!!!)
* 1 cup milk (sometimes a little less) (I didn't measure this as I poured straight from an almost full 250ml UHT full cream milk)
* 1 egg, beaten
* 2 tablespoons butter, melted or 2 tablespoons oil (I used oil)

What to Do?

* Mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt together.
* Fold in milk, beaten egg, and melted butter or oil.
* Grease griddle or pan.
* Put about 1/4 cup batter on heated skillet.
* When bubbles start showing on the surface of the pancake, flip and continue cooking until done.

THE RESULTS

I added 3 small bananas, half and sliced.

REACTIONS FROM MY "GUINEA PIGS"

ME
"Oh no! Salty! Should have omitted the salt! Tastewise, it's kinda like the fluffier version of my mum's Pok Chang"
BEN

"Mmmmm!!(He could have finished one pancake instead of eating about 80% of it if he had not eaten half slice of puff crust sponge cake while I was making the pancake)

HUBBY
"Salty! But OK-lah, I've seen some other hotels and places making pancakes like this. I think if eaten with bacon and all would be nice!"

So there you go.... my first attempt of making EASY TO REMEMBER PANCAKES without premix!

Just need to remember 1-1-1-1-1-1-2! Easy peasy!

Carolyn

How come this pancake looks flatter than normal pancakes? It's suppose to be like that? It looks easy. Maybe I should try. Easy to remember 1111112 but not easy to remember the ingredients ler. Maybe I got goldfish memory lor..heheheh

Hey Aurie!
Yes, no salt!

Hey Carolyn!
I use too big pan Tong Hence not thick enough!

Catheryn @ PinkBibs

Looks good specially with bananas.  Smile

This is something I like to do when we run out of bread or dont know what to have breakfast or too lazy to go out to hunt for food.

As for the salt, 1 tsp is a bit too heavy.  A pinch of it would do.

Hey Catheryn!
Yeah! I followed the recipe bulat-bulat ma... cos previously was using premix, don't even know the measurement! Tong Next time no more salt at all ler... The bananas really helped cover up the saltiness Tong

Kiddothings

Nice! I usually mash the bananas up and mix them into the batter as well! Actually a wee bit of salt makes a lot of difference to the taste!

Hey Germaine!
Nah, I think I'm gonna leave the salt out next time. As for the bananas, I think it looks cuter served in slices hehehe... Thanks for your feedback! Smile

Hi ilovecooking!
Thanks for sharing your comment and yes, leave out the salt! Smile

Flora

Yes, this is the basic pancake recipe. Come on mommies, premix? These ingredients are always at hand in a kitchen. Don't omit the salt, it chemically holds the molecules of wet flour together, but you should probably try to use less of it, just a pinch of salt. Do you only like bananas on pancakes, or was this just an idea you had right now? I like to put some jam and cinnamon on it and sometimes sugar or syrup and drops of lemon. I like your jury of hamsters a lot! Smile

Hi Flora!
Thank you for your feedback! I tried the same recipe again a few days later without the salt and it's nice! Glad you like my jury of guinea pigs! ;)
