Baby Then, Toddler Now...

~ Posted on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 3:56 PM ~

Just over 29 months ago, my Benjamin is so tiny and fragile...

And now he's a toddler!

People say that when you have your 2nd child, your first one will suddenly seem like so BIG and HUGE and ALL GROWN UP.

I hope I don't feel that way with Ben.

He's still pretty much a baby in my heart...

So mums with more than 1 child, does your older child really looks all grown up when the baby comes along?

I only have Isabelle (now).  Every now & then, I will look back at her infant pictures.  That is when I realised she is all grown up now.  But I am always in 'denial' because somehow, she IS still very much a baby to me.  Now, I know what parents means when they say 'You will always be my little baby eventhough you are 90!' So I am guessing, even if you have 3 or 4 kids, everyone of them will still be a baby to you!

My first son was 16 months old when my daughter was born..I don't know if he looked all grown up, but he definitely looked like a moose (ie huge), and felt like he weighed as much, when we brought our little 6lb baby home! (And my son was even small for his age!)My daughter was 20 months old when our 2nd son was born, and she's so petite (about 23 lbs at 26 months now), but still looked grown up when compared to the tiny baby. I find it hard sometimes to remember that the older siblings are still very young themselves, and that I need to treat them their age, not like "big" brother and sister. It's easy to expect too much from the older siblings.

Aww he is so sweet! Time definitely flies!
Yes, the older child looks huge compared to the new baby! I remember when my daughter was born - my son was 3.5 and I about cried when he came to the hospital to visit - he had just seemingly grown up overnight and I wasn't prepared for that. With my next two, I knew it was going to happen but my "older" kids definitely still got big fast!

I have a newborn niece and my daughter (same age as Ben!) looks so grown up next to her! It's crazy how big my "baby" is. I still think of her as a baby and her dad has to remind me (and sometimes force me) to let her be a kid and do her own thing hahah.

mom2kiddos

*sigh* they grow up so fast! Well I guess it depends on when you have a second one. I had mine when my 1st was exactly 2.5 and he was still pretty much my baby boy, still quite chubby with baby fat. Only recently when he turned 4 that I felt he's all grown up - getting thinner and taller. But, anyways, they'll forever be my babies...even at age 50.

Oh my YES!  Sophie seemed so tiny when I went to the hospital to have Bella, but when we brought Bella home all of a sudden Sophie seemed so big!  She could walk, talk, play, etc - all things that baby couldn't do yet.  By comparison - Bella seemed SO small and tiny, even though she was the same size Sophie was at birth!

Carolyn

I'm like mom2kiddos too. When I had Joseph, Elizabeth was just 2.5 years old. So she was still like my baby to me. But they will always be our baby right?

Jenny @ I'm a full-time mummy

Hey Carolyn,
By the time Spicy Baby comes along, Ben will be 2.5 years old too. And yes, I do agree no matter what age, they will still be like a baby to us! Smile
