Striving for Better Health and Fitness

~ Posted on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at 6:11 PM ~

On a few occasions, we have tagged along with one of my sister in law and her family when they went to their thrice weekly club outings.

Hubby and I will be wearing our swimsuits underneath our casual wear while I changed Benjamin and Alyson when we are at the club. There we would be playing in the swimming pools and kiddy pools for a few hours and head off to have dinner before going home.

We find that these outings are beneficial to our family as we could strive for our better health and fitness while Ben can spend time and bonds with his cousins as well. We also realized Ben gains more confidence in swimming by himself more and more often nowadays!

Prior to being married and having kids, I used to think all this memberships to clubs are very expensive and only the rich people can afford to subscribe to be a member and used the facilities there, but now, having been to one and see for myself all the facilities provided and the amenities which benefits us, hubby and I are seriously considering applying to be members to this club we frequently go to.

Hubby wanted to make use of the Gym facilities there to keep fit and tone back his body size and weight while I think the kids and myself would most probably be using the swimming pools facilities if we are there.

There are other amenities provided such as badminton courts, squash, tennis even golf course but I think for our current family size and condition now, gym and swimming pools are the best fit for us now.

On our part, hubby thinks that rather than paying extra to subscribe for another TV package (for children's channel for Ben to watch), why not get memberships to this club instead? That way, the whole family can go and exercise and have fun! Plus, it is also cool that we can invite other friends and family members along as well (they do need to pay for their admission but charges are lower).

My sister in law even suggested that in future I could invite my SAHM friends over and let the kids enjoy and play in the swimming pool while we mummies just sit at the pool side, watching over our kids and chatting and just relax. What a great idea to consider in future! Hmmmmm!!!

So yes, we are in the process of seriously considering this and I think this plan will benefit us in the long run if we are committed to using the facilities and going to the club for our better health and fitness! Will update you guys on this when it happens!

What about you? Are you a member of any health/sports club in your area?

I've Got Oil Coming Out of My Butt...

~ Posted on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at 9:35 AM ~

Yes... you read that right. I've got orange-y colored oil coming out of my butt... and I thought I was dying before I found out the cause just few days ago.

I silently went through the thoughts of dying because of this weird oil thingy and I dare not tell anyone until I gathered enough courage to Google this condition. I mean, would you go around telling people you are leaking orange oil from your butt?

So you have no idea how I relieved I was that it's not just me (who's dying) with this condition... in fact, one post I read has close to 400 comments where most of the people who feedback said they too have experienced the exact same thing! (and also thought they were dying!)

Keriorrhea

I have thought about whether I should write this post as you can see, the title itself is already gross enough. TMI (too much info) right?

But then, I thought people need to know the cause of this. And I think by writing this post, hopefully I'm cutting short the time you might waste worrying yourself to death thinking you are so going to die because of this orange-y oil coming out of your arse!

Now, let me tell you what happened...

One fine day, I was just doing my own stuff and I farted, few times (snort all you want, everyone farts, at least I dare to admit it!). I did not think much about it other than my body's natural function to expel gasses that are byproducts of my body's digestion process.

Few hours later, I went to the toilet and that's when I saw my pantyliner streaked with orange-y oil stains. Firstly, I am too busy with my SAHM life to be looking at what comes out of my privates all the time, so forgive me when I say I only noticed this few hours later. Secondly, yes again, gross it may be, but I think it's not just me who do look at what comes out of our body? Right?

So anyway, I freaked out of course. How can a human being excrete OIL from her body? And orange-y colored oil too! And don't get me started on the yucky smell... Bleurghhh...

As I sat there on the toilet seat, I remembered back having experienced this over a decade ago. Exactly the same orange-y colored oil coming out of my butt. But it went off and I forgot about it... until now...

What went on my mind at that time? It goes from:

'Oh crap, my digestion system is going bonkers... I can't even digest fat and oil from my body that they all decide to flow out by itself!'

to

'What next? Blood?!'

Anyway, I kept this 'discovery' to myself, telling myself I seriously need to Google this out when I've got the time to do so later. And that's when I stumbled upon the article and finally unlocking the mystery.

Apparently, this condition is called "Keriorrhea". According to Wikipedia, "Keriorrhea (oily diarrhea, oily orange diarrhea, anal leakage, orange oily leakage) is greasy, orange-colored stools which results from the consumption of indigestible wax esters found in oil fish and escolar." Am I grossing you out already?

Now the next thing is figuring out what I had that causes that... it took me a while but i finally remembered i had this on last Friday (2 days before the oil discovery).

Keriorrhea

This my friends, is "Smoothies-Fruities Fish" or pan-fried butter fish infused with passion berries fruit and sun-dried tomato. This dish is one of the many dishes on Fullhouse Lifestyle Store and Cafe menu, one of the hip restaurants here in Malaysia.

Butter fish.

A type of fish species called escolar. You can read more about it's effect and even being banned in Italy and Japan in the Wikipedia article.

So back to my purpose of writing this post despite publicly embarrassing myself by letting the world know that I farted, admitted it, look at what came out of my butt and then blogged about it. Please note that I am not condemning the restaurant or blacklisting it. I blogged about it because I care enough not to see this happens to any of you.

I'm still having the orange-y oil leak on and off.... Now if I were you, after reading this post, please stay clear of Escolar type of fish. You really don't want to be excreting orange-y oil from your arse. It's not a fun thing to experience and it's downright gross and yucky.

Website Review - EatingForBreastfeeding

~ Posted on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at 10:17 PM ~

Few months back, I have the opportunity to review this wonderful website which is aim at providing information such as recipes, news and more to nursing mothers as well as giving the avenue for mothers to interact with the professional staff on the site with regards to food intake and breastfeeding matters. So here goes my review for the "EatingForBreastfeeding " website:

I'm a full-time mummy

Description from the product page:
"We have a free video series we are offering right now. To access the rest of the content, a viewer has to purchase a membership.  With that, they get life-time access to the site. We have video interviews with our Registered Dietician talking about the foods they should and shouldn't be consuming while nursing, meal plans, recipes, shopping lists, etc. We also have a section where members can ask questions directly to our Registered Dietician. Our goal is to be their personal nutritionist while they are nursing, so mom and baby get the most out of breastfeeding."

Note from sponsor:

"We are adding a section that will provide nursing moms with 5 recipes a week for a full year (plus a shopping list each week)! We want them to get all the nutrients we recommend, so we have brought a chef on board to provide original recipes containing the foods nursing mamas need :-)  We will be rolling that out within the next month."

Feedback for "Home" section:

The website is easy to navigate, with the following sections on the menu tab: Home, Ask Stacy, Recipes, Meal Plans & More, News and Resources. I like the list of videos provided in this section such as Breastmilk Basics. A very informational video clip!

Feedback for "Ask Stacy" section:

I like that members of this site can get to ask questions directly to the registered dietician! The Q&A layout makes it easy to see the questions and replies but I would prefer if there are categories for each questions asked so that it is easier and quicker to search through the topics we wanted to look for instead of scrolling up and down each Q&A.

Feedback for "Recipes, Meal Plans & More" section:

I like the recipes provided though I'm not sure whether it's my Firefox setting or what but the bulleted list of recipes is not aligned properly with the recipe names. I'm just a bit particular with alignments hahahah... I also appreciate the meal plans in PDF format provided as well as the shopping list and more. I totally love the freezer fridge guidelines in this section!

Feedback for "News " section:

In this section, there are news relating to pregnancy, baby, formula and more which may be of interests to mothers. I would appreciate if there are more news being added to this section as there are currently not much articles in this section.

Feedback for "Resources" section:

In this section, there is a list of websites which members can check out to get more information on other resources. I think it would be great if websites such as Kellymom.com or LLL are being included into this section as well.

Summary of feedback:

I think there are a whole lot more potential for this website as I don't get to see many websites which has information with regards to eating healthily for breastfeeding mothers, what more with a registered dietician on site to answer any questions you may have!

I do however think there should be more information and articles provided to keep members interested and to stay on to this website.
