Product Review - Hippychick Hipseat

~ Posted on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 7:48 AM ~

Over 2 months ago, I received an email pitch asking whether I would be interested to review a babywearing products and to be honest, I wasn't even aware that I was already expecting my 3rd child then. The moment we tested positive for our home pregnancy test, I wrote in telling the PR rep about the news and that I might not be able to do the review due to my physical condition but after some emails to and fro, we decided to go ahead and try this out as I was thinking if I can't use it, my hubby can try it out since he also babywears our kiddos as well. So here goes my review for "Hippychick Hipseat":

Hippychick Hipseat

Description from the product page:
"They say the best inventions are often the simplest and this could not be truer when it comes to the Hippychick Hipseat. It allows parents to carry children naturally on their hips without the usual strains to the back and has the support and endorsement of scores of chiropractors and osteopaths.

Acts as a back support for the wearer (similar to weight belt/motor cyclists belt/lumbar support) and is a very effective way of redistributing the weight from the neck, spine and shoulders. The more tightly the belt is worn the firmer the support on both counts. The weight is spread around the waist, hips and pelvis and the support comes from under the child rather than weight being borne from above. "

The reason why I decided to go ahead to review the Hippychick Hipseat is because it reminded me of the countless times I have to carry my girl (10kg = a bag of rice) and relied on my hips to support her. Just look at the picture below taken of our family (when we got to test drive Nissan LEAF for over 6 weeks) and hubby and I had to carry our kiddos each to pose for a family picture with our Nissan LEAF.

Okay, back to this product... I mean, this product is brilliant, I have personally not come across products like this until I received the email pitch to review this! Maybe I'm just not well aware of the babywearing products out in the market. Let's have a look at the features and layout of the product shall we?

Firstly, I am so thrilled I was given the purple colored one as purple is my favorite color! Yipee! Now, there's this belt which you need to put across your waist area and Velcro as tight as you can take it (as the tighter it is, the firmer the support it gave) followed by a strong buckle which you can easily clip on to secure the belt. Oh, and there is this tiny little clip which helps secure the remaining of the buckle strap so that it does not flap everywhere around your legs or waist.

Next, pictures of the product logo beautifully sewn and the warning label for your attention. There's a note telling you that you should always place one hand on your child and if you are pregnant, you need to consult your doctor whether you should continue using this product or not. On the right hand side of the picture below, you can also see 4 inner pockets (some with different widths) which you can slot in your personal belongings like mobile phone, identity cards, keys, some cash, anything actually!

Now a look at the important part, where your child is going to sit on. From the front view, it looks like a giant pouch, don't worry, you can take out the inside foam material by just unzipping the front pouch. Top view you can see a nice flat platform where your child can sit on.

Some more pictures of the product being worn by me... without the kids at this point still...

Hippychick Hipseat

Pictures below taken showing how my kiddos look like seated on the Hippychick Hipseat. Yes, I tried it out with both my kiddos because the label stated the product can be used for kids between 6 months to 3 years old or between 6 to 20kgs. Alyson weighs 10kg now and Benjamin is 16kg so I definitely tried this out on both of them.

Initial reaction on kiddos? Well, they feel weird to be sitting on this funny looking platform. I am happy to note they don't move around or try to do anything funny while sitting on it (like, I don't know suddenly decided to jump or slide away or something - this is just my personal paranoia) Look at the picture below of Alyson giving her thumbs up (not really a thumbs up but she always shows her index finger when she wanted to say 'Good!')

Hippychick Hipseat

I like that I don't have to stand weirdly on 1 side to balance my child on my hip now that I can rely on Hippychick Hipseat to do the job. Of course, I do need to still put a cautionary hand behind my child's back but I'm happy to note that my child sits comfortably on the seat.

Hippychick Hipseat

Here's few more pictures taken during our latest family outing to Ikea. Hubby gets to try out the Hippychick Hipseat this time and he said it is easy to put on, not difficult at all to adjust according to his waistline and he easily put our girl onto the seat and walks on. I also tried on the Hippychick Hipseat when hubby had to make payment at the cashier counter and need to lug the stuff we bought from Ikea. Hubby is a bit worried when he saw me putting on the Hippychick Hipseat as his concern is my pregnant state. Oh well, better to have a worried hubby :)

Hippychick Hipseat

In summary, this is one product that I will definitely use again and again during our family outing. It's easy to bring along, I just chuck it into our child's stroller and use it when one of the kiddos wants to be carried (Benjamin usually prefers to sit in the stroller after he gets tired of walking). And by the way, if your child gets too old or too heavy for this product, you can recycle it by taking out the inner foam material and reuse it as a waist pouch! Awesome right?!

Fruit Smoothies

~ Posted on Friday, March 29, 2013 at 7:53 AM ~

We've been adopting a new timetable for our kiddos since last week where we wake up at 8am, get ready for breakfast by 8.30am and then reading time, or water pool activity time (or replaced with running or cycling at porch when my kiddos do not want to play water) then playroom activities, daytime bath, then preparation for lunch, then learning activities for half an hour then naptime at 2pm to 4pm then they wake up for tea break and another round of learning activities for half an hour and TV time for 1 hour and then dinner time, then rest for a while and go for evening bath followed by bonding time with grandma and/or daddy before heading for bed at 9.30pm.

I've also changed our kiddos breakfast to cereals (we buy Post cereals) and I've been making fruit juices and fruit smoothies for them to accompany their cereal breakfast.

This is one of the fruit smoothies I made last week:

Half a carrot + 1 apple + 1 mango blended nicely and served in their own sippy cups. Sometimes my 1.5 year old girl will finish hers, else I will end up finishing for her while my 4 years old boy will always finish his fruit juices/smoothies. I think this idea is great as I get to sneak in some veggies in the juice/smoothies and they don't notice anything.

Fruit Smoothies

I basically just blend whatever fruits we have on hand, but mostly we rotate between apples, pears, bananas, mangoes and carrots definitely.

Do you have any favorite/signature fruit juices/smoothies?

Product Review - Modbox

~ Posted on Friday, March 8, 2013 at 7:20 AM ~

It was such a weird twist of events that lead to my latest product review today. I happened to see one of the brands I reviewed for recently posting a link on their Facebook page for being a part of Modbox's January subscription box and being curious as ever, I decided to check out what is this Modbox thingy...

I'm a full-time mummy

Modbox

Description from the product page:
"Modbox is a Malaysian beauty box subscription service, born out of us being too caught up with work/life to indulge in our addiction for beauty. After spending too much time sifting through tonnes of reviews online and having to hunt down these products, we realised that it really shouldn’t be so difficult!

The concept is simple — discover and try out awesome new stuff in a way that’s both convenient and affordable. Ultimately, we just want to help you change up your beauty routine and spice up your usual colour palette, all without you having to work too hard to find out what really works for you."

I'm a full-time mummy

Firstly, I am not a fan of beauty products as I always have the perception that there is simply just too many products and brands out there and how the heck am I supposed to figure out which one works best for me? Plus, being a frugal person, I never really buy beauty products especially now that I am a SAHM and there is not much opportunities for me to go out anyway. I don't even wear make up when I was working last time, let alone now! But of course, deep down inside, I do want to look good and on the ocassions that I am out in public, I do want to look presentable and pleasant to look at.

So I was happy to come across this brand where I get to pay a small amount of money to have 5 beauty sample products delivered right up to my door and I get to try them out without having to risk wasting too much money buying the actual size products and end up not liking it.

To be honest, I was actually a click away from subscribing the February box when I thought to myself 'Why not email to ask them whether I can review this? I mean, no harm if they say no... I am going to subscribe anyway...' and so, with a slight tinge of shame, I proceeded to make use of my blogger status to ask Modbox whether there is any possibilities for me to review their products before I subscribe, I got a reply from them and apparently they are aware of my website and happy to work with me and the rest is history...

I received the February box delivered right to my doorstep and this is how they looked like the moment I tore off the bubble wrap:

Modbox

A beautiful and sturdy lilac colored box with the word 'Modbox' on the front cover greets me after I tore away the bubble wrappings. Inside the box, I found a handwritten personalised note just for me and oh boy, the box inside smells really good! There are 5 products in the February box and they are all nicely packed and arranged, there is also a piece of printed card listing the 5 products in the box and how much it is worth (for full size products) and what are the usage and benefits of each products.

Here is a short summary of the products:

1) Juice Beauty Cleansing Gel (RM115 for 200ml) - a brightening cleanser which results in a more refined complexion with its antioxidant-rich organic lemon, apple and purifying botanicals properties.

=> My feedback: I put on some on my body one time after bath and my first thought as I smelled it was 'Smells like asam boi (aka preserved sour plum)!'. Anyway, it leaves my skin smooth and clean and to be honest, because of the price, I dare not use too much and too often hehehe (frugal mum, sorry)

2) Perkins Nail Wrap (RM39.90 / 20 strips per pack - full size) - a super easy way to sport glamorous nails in an instant - just peel, apply and file!

=> My feedback: I haven't got around to trying this out yet as I'm very clumsy with my nails and toes. Meaning, I get them scratched easily and having to watch after 2 kids all the time at home, it further makes me procastinate longer whether I should use this for now. Maybe I'll keep this first and use it on special ocassions where I get to show off my nails and toes!

3) SHAiRE London Silk Classic Collection Hair Perfume Dry Shampoo (RM35.90 / 60ml - full size) - the ultimate all-in-one hair product! Great for in between washes, it cleanses, conditions and revitalizes your hair and repairs and strengthens hair roots - all in one nifty little bottle!
=> My feedback: I haven't got around to testing this yet but I'm happy to see such a product available - especially when you can use it during confinement time. Now, people who know me will know I'm not a superstitious person who follows strict confinement rules but I think a lot of new mummies (who have to go through strict confinement) will appreciate this dry shampoo since they will be able to wash their hair and still not break any confinement rules! So I'm keeping this in case someone around my network needs it hehehe...

4) Essence Smokey Eyes Set (RM11.90 / 3g - full size) - this handy set comes with a cream eyeliner that can be used as a base, a powder eyeshadow plus a dual-ended applicator.

=> My feedback: Wow! I'm pretty impressed with this eyes set! I haven't got the opportunity to try this out yet but I'll be looking forward to using it soon! Also I think for the price, it is very reasonable to get one of this nifty set!

5) Essence Nudes Lipgloss (RM9.90 / 5ml - full size) - keeps your lips shimmery and moisturised with vitamin E and Panthenol without leaving behind a sticky feeling.

=> My feedback: Oooh... I like this! I like being able to use a lip gloss that is not so obvious color (I don't like attention to my face hahaha) and I did tried this product out. It keeps my lips moist and shiny. For the price of almost RM10, I think it is reasonable as well.

Modbox

In summary, for the price of RM28 (RM19 if you subscribe monthly and RM9 for delivery in Peninsular Malaysia), you get to have 5 beauty sample products. I think it is worth it, especially for February box as there are actually 4 full-sized products given and I think it is very worth the money to be trying out these beauty products before deciding to buy them.

Some of the mums in my Facebook groups mentioned that the brands in Modbox are not well-known compared to other beauty subscriptions which work with big named brands. I begged to differ and would be glad to advise you guys to give Modbox a try as there are potential with unknown brands and for the price comparison with other beauty subscriptions (which could be double or more of what Modbox is offering), please do consider Modbox.

As for me, I will definitely look forward to subscribing to Modbox from now on to try out more beauty products.
