Teaching & Learning Moment - Time

~ Posted on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at 5:49 AM ~

Our first kiddo officially started his 3 weeks long holiday and first day of the month I was really really busy, as I need to process claims for April and May, chasing our clients for pending payment, issue invoices, issue purchase orders, assign software licenses, on top of keeping 3 kiddos busy and prepare soup and cook for tonight's dinner.

I've still got some items pending to do : change bedsheets and iron 3 weeks worth of working clothes. Gaaaaaaaa... anyway, took a few minutes off to gently guide our 6 years old boy to do the following. I printed out this piece of paper (source from Internet) which consists of 12 yellow circles with the minutes figures inside) and 2 leaves with hour and minutes printed on it and a stem to stick the leaves on.

I told our 6 years old boy to cut out the shapes according to the outline and helped him to double-side the shapes onto our Ikea wall clock. Currently in his kindy, he can tell the time by the hour and half past hour. Example, 10 o'clock or half past 5. But he can't yet tell me things like the time now is 'five forty five' or 'eight fifteen'.

Teaching & Learning Moment

Now why this falls into the 'Teaching & Learning Moments!'?

* I get to expose and teach our boy on how to tell time by the hours and minutes.

* Our boy gets to practise his paper cutting skills!

Win-win!
